IONA COLLEGE

School: Iona College opened was established in 1940 and got its name after Iona, an island off the west coast of Scotland, home to the monastery of St. Columba. The main campus is situated on 45 scenic acres in the vibrant college town of New Rochelle, N.Y., just 20 miles from Midtown Manhattan. In recent years there has appeared a student center, athletics center, a new residence hall and other major advancements. The campus is equipped with soccer and softball fields, basketball courts and Olympic-sized swimming pool. The college also gas smart board-equipped classrooms, Apple computer lab, auditorium and rehearsal spaces, student union and campus store.

Accommodation: Co-ed dormitory hall of Iona College with separate male and female suites. Each suite contains four bedrooms (double and triple beds) with a living room, kitchen and two bathrooms

Teachers: Teachers are native speakers certified to teach English as a foreign language. They use a communicative teaching method where conversation is emphasized in the classroom. Maximum class participation from students is encouraged. Teachers speak for approximately 15% of the class time and students speak 85% of the time.

Students: There's a mix of over 30 nationalities.

Supervision: Full-time supervision

Keeping in touch with your kid: the language school has a free Wi-Fi coverage. So, parents can easily contact their kids through Skype or other messengers.

SUMMER PLUS FASHION ART & DESIGN

Summer Plus is an academic and experiential program that gives students the opportunity to improve their English speaking skills, while immersing into fashion, art and design topic. It is for students who would like to study the entire spectrum of the fashion world from design to production. Workshops and field trips include a tour of the Garment District or project creation with designers.On weekdays in the morning the students have group English lessons. The groups are formed on the basis of the test results and age. The classes are based on the communicative approach and focus on major language skills - speaking, listening, writing and reading. 2 General English lessons are followed by 2 Fashion, Art and Design classes. The topics of such classes can be devoted to international and US street style, careers in fashion industry, fashion show production, fashion design collection.In the afternoon (after lunch) students either participate in field trips (e.g. to Garment District) or take part in on-campus and of-campus master classes and activities. In the evening (after dinner) students have unique New York experiences which include exploring going to Hard Rock Cafe, visiting Times Square, fireworks on the beach and others. Saturdays and Sundays are full of activities and excursions related to the Fashion, Art and Design topic.
